Gastric Balloon in Turkey?
A Gastric Balloon is an Inflated balloon filled with gas or air in the stomach. It is a very popular weight loss procedure in Turkey.
Three types of gastric balloons are used – The Spatz3 –Adjustable balloon – Obalon - these are the most used in Turkey, they are soft expandable balloons.
The gastric balloon is inserted endoscopically into the stomach. The procedure takes around 20 to 30 minutes, depending on which type of gastric balloon you choose to have. The silicon balloon placed in the stomach will significantly reduce portion sizes, making you feel fuller with less food, so you start losing weight.
Who is suitable for a Gastric Balloon?
If your Body Mass Index (BMI) is over 32, a gastric balloon can help you lose weight in the long term and treat other conditions such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.
The gastric balloon procedure can be beneficial for people who are considered too overweight for major surgery. Using the balloon to successfully lose weight before surgery can also help reduce the risks associated with surgical procedures in overweight patients.
Your doctor will confirm your BMI and perform a detailed examination before deciding whether a gastric balloon suits you.
Results of weight loss with Gastric Balloon
Patients who undergo gastric balloon surgery usually lose between 5 and 20 kg of weight and return to work after two to three days.
Most weight loss with the balloon occurs within the first three months. After that, the weight loss usually stabilizes, and we ask patients to exercise more.
Patients will find that they feel fuller for longer, even though they are eating less, allowing them to reduce their meals and achieve the desired weight loss.
