A lot of buccal fatty tissue in the cheeks may cause a larger, rounder, chubby face in some patients. Although some people have no excess fat and still have a round-shaped face, this look can cause them to be unhappy. With the removal of just 2-3cc of fat from each cheek, the cheekbones become more distinct, and the face looks thinner and more elegant.
Buccal fat is a well-defined mass of fat that lies in the cheeks and goes up to the temple. So the cheek can look hollow or large in appearance depending on its size. When your cheek is small it can look hollow with wrinkles. To have cheeks that are sharper and defined, the surgeon will make two small incisions inside on each cheek, either with a scalpel or a laser beam which is used to remove the area of fat, known as bichats bags. The incisions are then sutured closed.
