Lasik effects surgery will last for a lifetime for most patients. However some patients within years of time their vision may get slightly worse because of the anatomical changes to their eyes. Then they may require another laser surgery.

You may experience ''halos'' (seeing bright circles or rings around a light source) up to a few weeks after the eye surgery. The reason for that is because fluid causes light to scatter on treated cornea.

You can shower normally after a LASIK Eye surgery. Within the first week after the surgery you need to avoid rubbing your eyes and keep water, soap, hair products away from the eyes.

You need to wait 48 hours after LASIK eye surgery to watch TV. Your eyes are healing and the first two days are most important. So same with tablets or phones you also need to take a break from it.

LASIK eye surgery involves first creating a flap in the outer cornea, which is often done with a femtosecond laser (extremely fast pulsed infrared laser). The LASIK flap consists of the outermost layer of the cornea, the epithelium, and part of the deeper layers, Bowman's layer and the stroma. This flap is then lifted and an excimer laser is placed on the cornea to ablate or reshape it. The laser is set to deliver just the right amount of energy to correct the patient's myopia, hyperopia and/or astigmatism. The flap is then realigned over the treatment area to protect it and facilitate healing, which is why LASIK healing is so fast.

PRK laser eye treatment is much safer and more effective than LASIK in the long term as it does not leave a flap on your cornea. PRK treatment may need a longer time in the healing process but there are the same results as with the LASIK.

PRK is the short name for Photo Reactive Keratectomy. It is a quick eye surgery with a quick healing process.

After a PRK eye surgery you should not apply make-up or any creams for a minimum one week. For the next two weeks after the surgery you need to avoid swimming, hot tubs, sauna, jacuzzi and dusty rooms. You can shower 24 hours after the PRK surgery but avoid water going into your eyes or rubbing them (no hair wash until your doctor tells you is safe to do).

On the same day of the PRK procedure please do not use perfume or cologne water. We advise you to wash your hair a day before the PRK surgery as the next hair wash your doctor will advise you when is safe to do so.

SMILE is a surgery that reshapes the cornea. As a result the light focuses more accurately on your retina, giving you sharper vision. SMILE is a relatively new procedure compared to the LASIK surgery.

EPI-LASIK is another variation of the PRK procedure. The EPI-LASIK flap is very similar to the thin flap created during LASEK surgery. In both procedures, the flap contains only cells of the very thin outer layer of the cornea, called the epithelium. The difference is in how the Epi-LASIK and LASEK flaps are made.

What is a YAG laser eye treatment? YAG stands for neodymium yttrium aluminium garnet. This laser provides fast, effective and painless treatment of posterior capsular opacification (PCO), also known as 'secondary cataract." The procedure is called YAG laser posterior capsulotomy. Cataract surgery involves replacing the cloudy lens of your eye with an artificial lens. In about 10% of patients who have cataract surgery, the thin membrane behind the lens (called the posterior capsule) can become cloudy. This results in blurred vision, similar to cataracts, which is why posterior capsule opacification is often referred to as a 'secondary cataract." Capsulotomy with the YAG laser is an extremely quick, simple and effective procedure. It can be performed in the treatment room, so you don't have to go to the operating room, and is completely painless. Patients will notice immediate improvement after YAG laser capsulotomy treatment. There is a possibility that you may have some 'floaters' in your vision for a few weeks after treatment, but serious side effects with YAG lasers are rare.

ASA is an eye surgery where the cornea is exposed by a treatment called surface ablation. Small piece of layer is removed to expose cornea so the cornea can be reshaped by Allegretto laser to upgrade better vision.

ASA surgery will last about 15 minutes and will be done under topical anaesthetic.

SLT - Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty and is a form of laser surgery used to lower intraocular pressure in glaucoma. It is used when medications in the form of eye drops do not lower eye pressure enough or cause significant side effects. It can sometimes be used as the initial treatment for glaucoma. People who have open-angle glaucoma (the outflow system in the front of the eye is open) and need their intraocular pressure (IOP) lowered are eligible for the procedure. The way SLT works is by delivering laser energy into the drainage tissue of the eye. This triggers a chemical and biological change in the tissue that results in better drainage of fluid through the drain and out of the eye. This eventually leads to a reduction in intraocular pressure. It may take 1-3 months to see results. SLT lowers intraocular pressure by about 30% when used as an initial treatment. This is comparable to the reduction of intraocular pressure by the most potent and commonly used class of glaucoma eye drops (prostaglandin).
